Who do you guys think is the king of Lo-Fi? Nujabes or J Dilla? Obviously they worked together and influenced each other, but to whom would you give your roses first? Personally, I'd give it to Dilla, because of his monumental footstep in rhythm.

But while it is undoubtedly important to recognize the seamless nature of his play between 6/8 and 4/4, beat-craft of that nature, and the importance of bridging the cultures and polyrhythms to which they are associated, Dilla was a cultivator of specific motifs solely within singles and records. In contrast, Nujabes was able to set uniquely captivating tones to soundtracks that would accompany visual works. (See Samurai Champloo) Could it be argued, that given your response, J Dilla is the more influential producer, but Nujabes is a more evocative artist?

J Dilla to me, was a pioneer of his sound, time and era. He holds the crown for lo-fi because of the swing component he brought to the forefront.
